Chapter 9 – One Last Problem

Back in Mana Khemia Garness and Vixen sat on a bench talking all about the adventure they had had for the last 3 months. Garness listened patiently to Vixen's story but all she really cared about was the fact that she was finally reunited with her little sister.
"So then I met Melinda and she brought me, Rage and Carrisa here," vixen told Garness.
"So Rage and Carrisa have been looking after you?"
"Yeah but then I found out that the elder of this village is our dad."
"I know."
"You do?" Vixen said a little surprised.
"Yes, when I was in Mazan with my friend Casey the leader of the village received a letter from our father saying that you were back with him."
"Oh," Vixen replied, "can I meet your friend Casey?"
"Of course you can sweetheart. In fact she is very excited to meet you too."
"Wow, that's cool."
"Do you know what's even cooler about her?"
"What's that?"
"She has a Dragon."
"No way! I thought Dragons were just a legend."
"So did I before I met him, but he is very real."
"That's awesome."
"Yes, yes it is," Garness smiled.

They talked for what seemed like hours, the conversation taking a peaceful form that is, until Vixen mentioned Serrina. "Sis, guess who else I met here?"
"Who Vixen?"
"Mum. Mum is here," Vixen said excitedly.
Garness was silent for minute, thoughts of her mother coming back. Memories of seeing her in her death bed resurface; painful memories she didn't want to relive.
"Vixen, you know Mum has been dead for years."
"No she's not. Dad just set it up to look that way. She was very sick but Dad has been trying to help her."
"But if that was the case then Mum would still be alive and Dad would never have left us."
"I told you, her was trying to help her. Come with me and I'll show you," Vixen grabbed her sister's wrist and pulled her up then escorted her back to Yudande's mansion where Carrisa was waiting patiently for them.
"Hello Vixen, your father is waiting for you in the other room," Carrisa said bowing.
"Oh Carrisa this is my sister, Garness. Say hi," Vixen said happily.
"Hello Garness, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. Vixen has told me so much about you. From wait I hear you're quite the role model."
"Thank you Carrisa; it's a pleasure to meet you two," Garness replied, returning the gesture.
"Come on Sis, Mum and Dad are waiting," Vixen said excitedly, taking Garness into the mansion and into the main living room.

Inside sat Yudande and Rage, both in a conversation. Yudande was lecturing Rage on how NOT to use his nine-tailed status to get shop discounts. "So tomorrow, what are you going to do?" Yudande asked, giving Rage no way to riddle out.
"Pay the guy I brought the necklace off the full amount," Rage sighed.
"And? What else?"
But before Rage could reply, Vixen made her presence known by clearing her throat.
"Excuse me, Dad. Is Mum anywhere, there is someone I'd like her to meet," Vixen said holding Garness' hand. Rage and Yudande immediately stopped their conversation and turned around to look at Vixen and Garness. Rage stepped forwards with his hand held out.
"Oh, hello there. You must be Garness. I'm Rage by the way. You're sister has been saying good things about you." Garness took Rage's hand and shook it firmly. When Rage got his hand back he rubbed it gently, "Wow, good grip." Yudande then stepped forwards, his hand also held out.
"Hello Garness, it's... lovely to see you again," he said, a little discouraged. Surprisingly to Yudande, Garness took his hand and shook it.
"Hello Dad. How long has it been?" Garness asked in an unhappy tone.
"You don't look very happy to see me, my daughter."
"I am putting on a good attitude because Vixen is here. We'll talk properly later." Sensing the tone of Garness' voice Vixen quickly tried to change the subject of the conversation to something happier.
"Dad, where is Mum? I have to show Sis that she is ok," Vixen said.
"She is upstairs changing into something appropriate for the occasion. She'll be down in a minute or so," Yudande replied.
"Ok then; we'll just sit and wait," Vixen smiled walking over to the sofa and sitting down. She patted the cushion next to her, signalling Garness to sit next to her. Garness happily sat down and held Vixen's hand. But when she looked at Vixen, Vixen was given her the raised eyebrow.
"What did I do?" Garness said.
"You know what you did wrong. It's the first time you see Dad in over 310 years and the first thing you do is argue with him."
"Vixen you don't understand. This is the Anthro that just walked out on us remember?"
"I told you, he had a good reason."
"Oh I'm sure he does," Garness pouted.
"Sis!" Vixen exclaimed.
"What do you want of me?"
"To trust me and to give him another chance."
"Ok I'll trust you but it is going to take a lot before I can give him a second chance."
"Yankie vu, Sis."
"I beg your pardon? What did you just say?"
"Yankie vu. It's 'thank you' in our native tongue. Dad has been teaching me."
"What else has he been teaching you?" Garness said very concerned.
"Where all the best places in the village are. I'll show you later," she smiled.

Moments later there was a knock on the door and then a voice that Garness hadn't heard in years. It was like all the bad memories had returned to play a horrible trick on her and that her mind was going along with it. "Hello Garness, my daughter," Serrina said from the doorway. Everyone turned to face the doorway and saw Serrina standing in the middle of the doorway wearing the clothes she had worn when she used to live with Yudande and the girls; a white, long sleeved top with grey strips all the way down and a pair of grey jeans accompanied by a pair of light blue ankle warmers and a blue Alice band. When Garness saw Serrina she nearly fainted. Vixen smiled and stood then walked over to Serrina. She held her hand and looked up at her then at Garness.
"Sis, say hi to Mum," Vixen beamed, her tails wagging happily. Garness couldn't believe her eyes. Stood in front of her in broad daylight was her mother. She was everything like she remembered her to be. Tears began to form again in the corners of her eyes and she bit her lower lip to prevent herself from crying. Serrina just smiled and held her arms open. Vixen smiled as well and signalled Garness to come forwards. "Come on Sis. It's Mum." Garness stood up and walked cautiously up to Serrina and she embraced her gently with open arms just like she did in the days of old. Garness burst into tears and cried. Serrina just stroked her daughter's hair just like she used to, rocking side to side.
"Mum, it's really you," Garness whimpered.
"It's all right Garness, cry your tears. I'm here now." After a few minutes Serrina let go of Garness and looked at her. Vixen just continued to smile because in her mind she knew that her family was back together and as strong as ever. Garness sniffed and wiped her tears away.
"I still can't believe you're here. I thought you were dead."
"I told you, didn't I?" Vixen said holding Garness' hand.
"Yes, you were right. But tell me Mum, how is it that you are still alive. I clearly remember seeing you on your death bed. What happened?"
Serrina looked at Garness then at Yudande. "I think your father should be the one to explain it to you. He was the one that helped me."
Garness turned to Yudande, this time her expression more forgiving. "Ok Dad, start from the beginning."

It took Yudande about an hour to explain everything to Garness. How he had tried to heal Serrina, how his attempts failure and how he came to the conclusion to place Serrina inside a crystal. Garness questioned him on everything, trying to find a fault in what he was telling her. Her reason for this was because she was still very weary of Yudande since he used to tell lies before but as Yudande explained to her, he was incapable of lying since he was under the Kitsune oath.
"So it's all true. You never abandoned us?" Garness exclaimed.
"We would never do such a thing. The only reason I left was to help your mother and I knew that you were a bright young Anthro, you had recently earned your second tail so I thought you would be able to cope on your own."
"But why did you leave us without saying anything?"
"Because I knew that if I told you it was about your mother you'd have wanted to follow me."
"Yeah but, I could have helped you."
"But you couldn't have. I was helping your mother in ways that you would never have understood. The medicines I tried to create or the magic I attempted to use. I didn't want you to see me failing."
"Oh Dad, you big idiot," Garness cried happily, "If you had explained that in the first place then I would have understood. Like you said, I'm very bright."
"So you're not mad at me anymore?"
"Oh I'm still mad but now that I understand I can begin to forgive you."
"Really?" Yudande asked. Garness nodded and smiled.
"Of course," she smiled walking over to Yudande and embracing him in a hug. Yudande was speechless, unable to think of how to respond because for years he believe that Garness truly hated him but now she was embracing him, something he never thought she would ever do again. Yudande looked at Serrina with confusion but she just glanced back and signalled him to return the gesture. He wrapped his arms around Garness and continued to hug her.

That evening Garness, Vixen, Yudande and Serrina travelled to the gateway in order to visit Casey and Emperor. On the way they ran into Evan and Lyrah who had also had their own little reunion with their father. As it turned out they leave the village on a regular basis and get lost. Their father, Hertz, thanked Garness and offered to teach her any hunting technique she liked. Garness just smiled and said, "That's ok. I'll keep your offer in mind. Thank you Hertz," she bowed in courtesy. Lyrah, Evan and Hertz said their goodbyes then walked off. The others continued on to the edge of the village until they came to the cliff that the gateway was on top of.

"Now all we have to is get up there. I mean it was easy enough coming down but getting back up is a completely different ball game. That cliff must be at least 100 feet tall," Garness gasped. Yudande chuckled and walked up to the cliff edge and stuck one of his feet out, and as if by magic his feet clung to the cliff face. He then stuck out his other foot which also stuck to the cliff. Then Yudande did something only seen in comic books; he began to walk vertically up the cliff. At that point Garness and Vixen's jaws just hit the floor.
"Dad, you're walking up that cliff just like Spideroidman," Vixen exclaimed.
"Who?" Yudande said already halfway up the cliff.
"Spideroidman. He's a cartoon character."
"Oh, I see," Yudande replied turning his attention back to walking the cliff. Once Yudande was at the top Serrina stepped forwards. Garness glanced at Serrina then at the top of the cliff.
"Mum, there's no way you're going to make it up there," Garness said pointing out the obvious.
"That's where you are wrong Garness," Serrina smiled, hunching down as far as she could.
"What are you doing?"
"Just watch," Serrina winked. Suddenly she shot into the air like a bullet. It was almost as if she had springs for legs. She then landed gracefully at the top and looked down at Vixen and Garness. "Now it's your turn girls," she shouted.
"Oh this is going to be a snap," Vixen laughed, and at the same time her wings appeared and she gave them a flap then flew into the air. It took Vixen no less than 10 seconds to reach the top leaving Garness on her own at the bottom. She stared up, arms crossed.
"That's not fair, you all have abilities and I don't have any," Garness pouted.
"That's not true Garness," Yudande said jumping down and standing beside Garness. "Do you remember those crystal figurines you used to bring home?"
"Of course I do. I made them."
"But do you remember how you made them?"
"No, not really," Garness said shaking her head.
"Well, let me remind you," Yudande offered, stepping in front of Garness.
"Dad, what are you doing?" Garness asked, feeling uncomfortable with how close he was getting.
"Just stay still and you won't get hurt," he said placing two fingers onto Garness' forehead, "you might feel a tingling sensation but if you close your eyes things will go faster."
"But I..." but before Garness could complete her sentence Yudande began to probe her mind.

Images suddenly began to flash before Garness' eyes. Images of past experiences, people and places played in fast forwards in front of her. It was as if Yudande was taping into her memories and giving her information. Moments later everything stopped and Yudande stepped back. "There we go. Everything should be fine now," he smiled, "Now tell me what you remember?"
"I remember... the figurines... they were made from crystals I had made from the ground."
"That's right. Can you demonstrate?"
"I'll try," Garness knelt down and placed both hands flat onto the ground and closed her eyes in concentration. She tried to think back about the days when she made the crystal figurines. Suddenly the ground under her hands began to vibrate, almost as if it was moving right under her. Then without any warning, a small green crystal protruded from the ground in front of her. Garness looked at the crystal in amazement. "Did I just do that?!" she exclaimed.
"Yes, do you see now? Every single Anthro in Mana Khemia is born with a unique special ability. It's what separates me from any other Kitsune in the village."
"But then why did I forget about mine?"
"I can't really say for certain but my guess is that you didn't use it frequently enough and over the period of time your brain simply filed the information in a dark corner."
"But I'll be able to use it properly now?"
"If you practice with it enough, then yes. Now come on up everyone is waiting," he smiled, jumping no higher than a couple of inches off the ground and disappearing then reappearing at the top of the cliff moments later. "Come on; show me what you're made of." Garness walked right up to the cliff and placed her hands onto the stone wall.
"I hope I'm not biting off more than I can chew," she muttered to herself then closing her eyes.

She concentrated hard on the cliff wall and sure enough it began to vibrate. Crystals of every shape and colour began to surface from the wall one by one in a diagonal pattern. The crystals grew in size until they were all the size of large watermelons. Once Garness stepped back she gasped for breath and almost collapsed. She managed to keep herself standing, and now she had to tackle the massive crystal staircase she had just created. Thankfully, Garness managed to climb the staircase and make it to the top, still a little out of breath. She fell to her knees and tried to regain her posture. Yudande leaned over and patted Garness on the back.
"Well done Garness," Yudande smiled, "now you just catch your breath and then after you've done that, we'll go and meet these friends of yours." And with that he rejoined Serrina. Vixen then sat down by Garness and smiled; a look of admiration in her eyes.
"Wow Sis that was amazing, how you made all those crystals from the cliff."
"Thank you Vixen. Now go with Mum and Dad. I'll be with you in a minute," she coughed, her strength still not completely back to her yet.

It took a few moments before her full strength came back to her. She fell over trying to get up but she just laughed and tried again. She walked up to Yudande and questioned him, "Dad, can I ask what the purpose of that exercise was?"
"I was wondering when you'd bring that up. Well you see, this cliff is a test to all the Anthros here. If they cannot reach the top then it means that they are not ready to leave so they stay here and hone their skills and try again when they think they are ready. It's that simple."
"Hey, I can see someone on the other side of the gateway," Vixen exclaimed, running up to the portal.
"Well shall we go? I can't wait to meet your new friends," Serrina said excitedly. Everyone held hands and all at once, stepped into the portal.

* * * *

Meanwhile on the other side of the portal, Casey and Emperor sat patiently. Casey sat under Emperor's wing and yawned. It had been 8 hours since Casey had parted ways with Garness but she stay true to her promise and waited patiently for her to return. Melinda on the other hand had wandered off home, tired from all the 'excitement' that had been going on that day. Emperor lowered his head and sighed and Casey shortly after. "I'm so bored; I wonder how much longer they're going to be?" Casey said leaning back on Emperor's scaly back. Suddenly the engravings began to glow. The violet lightning returned and whipped out like the arms of an octopus. Another bright flash and the portal bubble reasserted itself allowing any Kitsune to travel in and out of Mana Khemia.
"Casey, you might want to look at this," Emperor said giving Casey a quick nudge with his snout, instantly catching her attention.
"Oh wow. Someone's coming through. I do hope it's them." Then from the bubble 4 figures began to appear. At first the figures were blurred as if they were underwater. But then they began to clear up. Suddenly the bubble started to ripple and Garness stepped out with three other Anthro. Casey and Emperor stood up and smiled. When Garness glanced at Casey she smiled back and then walked up to her.
"Garness, you're back!" Casey exclaimed excitedly, her wag wagging from side to side.
"Yes, and I see you stuck to your word," Garness said.
"Hey, when I say something, I always stick to it."
"That's good to hear."
"Hi there," Vixen said walking up besides Garness and politely bowing. Casey smiled and bowed back.
"Casey this is my little sister Vixen," Garness said proudly. Casey knelt down on one knee and smiled.
"So you're Vixen. I've heard many things about you, all of them good."
"Thanks, so you helped Sis find me?" Vixen said.
"Yep, but I wasn't the only one to help. Say hi to Emperor," Casey said stepping aside and revealing Emperor. Vixen gasped and walked slowly up to Emperor. Emperor just smiled and lowered himself as a polite gesture.
"Oh wow! A real Dragon! He is so cool!" Vixen exclaimed.
"I'm glad you think so. It's very nice to meet you," Emperor replied gentlemanly.
"Cool, you can talk!"
"Marvellous, isn't it?"

While Emperor kept Vixen entertained Garness introduced Casey to her parents. "Casey, meet my dad," Garness said. Yudande stepped forwards and bowed.
"Yudande Devern, it's a pleasure to meet the person that reunited me with my daughter," he said, taking hold of Casey's hand and kissing the back of it.
"You're welcome," Casey blushed.
"And finally, this is my mum, Serrina," Garness said beaming. Serrina walked forwards and curtsied. Casey curtsied back and then they looked at each other. At first Casey thought she was being tricked. She looked over at Vixen then back to Serrina then before she could say anything Serrina spoke.
"I know. She looks a lot like me doesn't she?" Serrina asked, answering Casey's question before she could ask it.
"How'd you know what I was going to ask?"
"It was obvious. Your body language told me. The way you looked at us with your eyes made it clear what you wanted to ask."
"Wow, are you psychic?"
"No, just very good at reading body language," she chuckled. Then she saw Emperor and smiled. "Is that your Dragon, Casey?"
"Yes he is. Would you like to meet him?"
"It would be a delight."
"Then walk this way," Casey said leading Serrina over to Emperor and Vixen leaving Garness and Yudande together.

Yudande looked at Garness who looked back at him smiling.
"So Garness, what will you do now that you're finally back with your sister?"
"I haven't given that much thought. For the last 3 months all I've really thought about is finding Vixen but now I have I guess I'm at a dead-end."
"You could always stay here with us."
"Are you sure? I wouldn't want to intrude."
"Not at all, I have plenty of room back at the mansion. And to be honest, it gets quite lonely living in that big house on my own. It would be nice to have some familiar faces around the place."
"I'd have to give it some thought. It's a nice offer but I have to consider what is best for Vixen."
"I understand. You've been looking after her for most of her life and to make a decision like that has to be thought out."
"That's right. I have to consider if staying here in this time period is the best thing for her or to take her back to our original time."
"Well whatever you choose to do I'm sure it'll be the right choice," he said wrapping an arm around her.
"Thanks Dad. You know what; you're not half bad in the end," she chuckled
"You turned out pretty good yourself," he laughed back. Very soon they were both laughing in front of their reunited family.

* * * *

The sun soon began to set, casting an orangey glow through the tree branches. Far off on the south horizon the moon was slowly showing its face to the world and the birds in the sky began to land in the trees for their nightly roost. Yudande and Garness were sitting on the leaf covered forest floor working out their differences whilst Casey, Emperor, Vixen and Serrina had their own talk. Vixen was sat on Emperor's back with her wings out on full display.
"Are those wings for real?" Casey asked Vixen out of curiosity. Vixen gave her wings a gentle flap causing a gentle breeze to blow through Casey's hair.
"They are very real. You can touch them if you want," Vixen replied, moving one of her wings in front of her body so Casey could examine them. Casey reached out and touched the wing with the tips of her fingers. As soon as her fingertips touched the feathers Casey gasped.
"Oh wow! They're so soft! Are you sure they're real?"
"If they weren't real I wouldn't be able to do this," Vixen smiled, giving her wings another flap but this time there was so much force behind it that Vixen shot up a good 10 feet in the air, almost touching the highest tree branch. "See? Very real," she called down then making a quick back-flip before hovering back down and softly resting back in place on Emperor's back.
"That enough showing off Vixen," Garness said getting up and walking up to Emperor.
"But Sis..." Vixen moaned.
"No buts young lady. What have I told you about showing off?"
"That showing off is the height of bad manners," Vixen sighed.
"That's right. No one likes a smartarse."
"Oh come on Garness, she was having some fun," Casey said trying to defend Vixen.
"I know she means well but that's how I raised her. There is a line between what is harmless fun and rudeness."
"She's right you know," Emperor concurred.
"Emperor, whose side are you on?" Casey exclaimed.
"I'm on no-one's side; I'm just saying that what Garness said is true. If I had had been rude to my father I would have been eaten."
"Eaten?!"
"Of course. One of my brothers was stupid enough to talk back to my father and he simply ate him whole. After that, well let's just say we learnt our lesson."
"That's terrible."
"It's the way of life."
"That's enough arguing, all of you," Serrina exclaimed, cutting the conversation short. Everyone feel silent and they gazed at the floor.
"Sorry," they all said.
"I should hope so. You are supposed to be friends; friends don't fight with one another."
"Well said dear," Yudande said walking up and joining the group. "Now I have an offer to make you and I won't take no as an answer."
"What's that Dad?" Garness asked.
"I wanted you all to come and have dinner with us."
"Sir, there might be a problem with that?" Casey pointed out.
"What might that be?" Yudande replied.
"Emperor and I can't enter the gateway because we aren't part of your village." Yudande just chuckled and walked up close to Casey.
"That can be arranged," he smiled, taking hold of Casey's left arm and chanting something under his breath.

Casey suddenly felt a sharp burning sensation on her arm which quickly travelled all the way across her body. When Yudande had finished chanting his spell he released Casey's arm and dusted his hands off. "There you go, problem solved. Now you'll be able to pass through the gateway without any problem."
"Thank you sir," Casey said staring down at her arm and gasped at what she saw. Where Yudande had held her arm now stood a black tattoo of ancient writing. Casey rubbed her arm over it and discovered that it was permanently etched into the skin. Vixen looked at the writing and translated.
"This mark says 'gistva'. It means 'guest' in our language," Vixen said. Yudande smiled and ruffled Vixen's hair proudly.
"You're getting good at this. If I'm not careful, you'll be better at it than I am one day."
"I told you I was a quick study. I stayed up all night learning the alphabet."
"Did you? Well I must say that is quite an achievement. What you think mum?" Yudande said to Serrina.
"Fintasic," Serrina replied in Kitsune tongue.
"Thanks Mum," Vixen beamed. Yudande then walked up to Emperor and placed his hand on his chin.
"Hmm..." Yudande said, completely baffled with his problem.
"What is it sir?" Casey asked, looking worried.
"It's Emperor," he replied, starting to walk in a circle around the Dragon.
"What's wrong with him?"
"Oh nothing's wrong. It's just that I've never created a spell to allow Dragons in our village."
"Why can't you use the same spell you used on me?"
"Because the spell only works on Anthros and Beastmen. It was never intended for creatures large than an Anthro. If I use that on him, Gaia only knows what will happen."
"Yudande, that is a risk I am willing to take," Emperor said proudly.
"Are you sure?"
"Of course I am. I didn't live through 3 wars and the Great War by avoiding risks. I grappled them by the horns and fought them head on."
"Well if you are sure," Yudande said, still unsure of the after effects. He pressed his hand against Emperor's scaly hide and began to chant his spell. Emperor felt a burning sensation wash over his body.

After a minute or so Yudande had finished his spell and lifted his hand away from Emperor's side, revealing the same black tattoo as Casey. "Well give it a try. Walk through the gateway," Yudande suggested.
"Ok, I shall," Emperor said, standing up and heading for the gateway. But before Emperor had gotten anywhere close to the gateway, there was a brilliant flash of white blind which blinded everyone. When the light faded and everyone's eyes readjusted to the light, they saw three figures standing where the light had appeared. The group of three which consisted of two Anthros and a Human looked around in confusion their backs turned to the group of people behind them.
"Where are we now?" one of the Anthros asked.
"I don't know but I'm sure I saw them go in this direction," the Human replied. Garness stood there gasping, having recognised one of the Anthros immediately.
"Felicia?" she shouted. The blue Tigress Anthro of the three mystery figures turned around having heard a voice she hadn't heard in months.
"Garness?" the blue Tigress Anthro said, immediately seeing the person she had been searching for. Garness walked up to the Anthro to get a better look and when she saw her face she gasped again. She then gave her friend a hug.
"Felicia, it is you. What are you doing here?" Garness asked, completely baffled with how her best friend had suddenly appeared.
"I came to find you. That's what I'm doing here!" Felicia exclaimed, "The question is: are you ok? I've been searching for you everywhere."
"Really? But if you were looking for me, then why didn't we bump into you sooner?"
"Because every time I got to a place where you had been, you'd already left. You know you are one tough cookie to follow."
"But how'd you follow me in the first place. We're 300 years in the future and unless you have an ability that you haven't told me about then you shouldn't be here."
"I got some help. Shadow, come over here," Felicia ordered the male Human behind her.

The black haired Human walked slowly besides Felicia, his head hung low. When Garness saw the Human she got very angry. "YOU!" she exclaimed, fangs protruding from the sides her muzzle. She walked up to Shadow and grabbed the collar of his shirt and pinned him to the ground. "You're the reason my sister and I got sent to this time in the first place. We should have just left you to those Dwarves!" she shouted, shaking Shadow like a ragdoll. Felicia grabbed Garness by the arms and pulled her off Shadow. The other Anthro quickly came to Shadow's aid and helped him up.
"Are you all right Shadow? Did she hurt you?" the brown Anthro asked, dusting Shadow off.
"I'm fine June. I guess I deserve that," Shadow said feeling ashamed of his past actions.
"Too right you deserved it. I might of never have seen my sister again if it wasn't for you!" Garness shouted, wriggling in Felicia arms, trying to break free and have another go at the person responsible for her pain.
"Settle down Garness!" Felicia exclaimed, holding on with all her strength. Emperor saw Felicia struggling to hold Garness back and decided to intervene.
"Move aside!" Emperor ordered Felicia.
"What the hell!" Felicia exclaimed, releasing Garness and jumping back, almost being knocked over from its huge spiked tail. Emperor grabbed both of Garness' arms with his claws and pinned her to the ground.
"That's enough! Control yourself Garness!" Emperor yelled, his forked tongue flicking out against Garness' face. Garness wriggled for a couple of seconds but when she couldn't break free from Emperor's grip she began to quiet down. Felicia cautiously stepped forwards towards Garness and the huge orange creature that had her pinned safely to the ground.
"Wait a minute, you're that creature I saw carrying Garness away," Felicia exclaimed.
"You saw us?" Casey replied.
"Who are you?"
"I am Casey. Emperor is the Dragon that belongs to me. He has helped me reunite Garness and Vixen back together. And you are?"
"I'm Felicia; I'm Garness' lifelong friend."
"I think it's time someone explained what's really happened," Emperor said, his claws still clamped to Garness' arms.
"That's the smartest thing that anyone has said all day," Yudande said stepping forwards to join the conversation, "now start from the beginning young lady."

It took an hour for the whole side to be explained from both sides and the full picture to become clear. Garness sat on a nearby boulder observing the others having finally been released from Emperor's grip. Vixen sat next to her trying to comfort her and convince her that she had every right to be angry with Shadow. Felicia explained how Shadow had owned up to everything he had done and admitted that there was probably nothing he could do to put things right. Yudande however tried to make sense of the story that Felicia told and trying to figure out who was in the wrong. After a while Felicia walked over to Garness and Vixen to have a personal talk.
"How are you feeling Garness? I've never seen like that before, what happened?" Felicia asked sitting down on the boulder besides her.
"I'm sorry Felicia, I just lost it. You realise that Shadow guy is the reason that Vixen and I are here," Garness replied holding onto Vixen's hand.
"I know that but he didn't mean to. What happened to you was accidental."
"That might be true but that won't change the fact that we're here."
"Well I have been following you half around the world and now that I've found you, I'm finally able to take you home."
